Sick of losing and interested in gathering more recognition, Lions WR Calvin Johnson is participating in the team’s offseason workout program. Despite being regarded as one of the game’s best receivers - especially when he caught 12 touchdown passes and had 1,300-plus yards receiving two years ago - Johnson hasn’t been invited to play in the Pro Bowl. He believes it’s because the Lions haven’t been consistent winners. One way the Lions can win is if Johnson can help for all 16 games, so he has been working with a trainer to strengthen the areas around his knee joints. “I want to stay healthy so I can be out there every Sunday,” he said.

How soon? I don’t know. But everything’s going good so far, so I’m just going to continue to work and go day by day.”

He finished his rookie year by completing 201 of 377 passes for 2,267 yards with 13 touchdowns and 20 interceptions this season. He either threw or ran for a touchdown in all 10 of his starts. “I felt good about it,” Stafford said of his rookie year. “I obviously wanted to win more games than two, but at the same time, I learned a lot and got a lot of experience.”
