The Jets have signed fullback John Conner, the team’s fifth-round draft pick, to a four-year contract. Conner, nicknamed “The Terminator” because he shares the name of one of the main characters in the Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, played in a school-record 53 games at Kentucky. He is expected to back up veteran fullback Tony Richardson this season.

The New York Daily News reports that Jets QB Mark Sanchez said Thursday that he will be ready to go for the three-day minicamp starting June 14 as he recovers from offseason knee surgery. “If things keep going the way they are and they progress the way they are now I’m confident I’ll be ready to go,” Sanchez said. Sanchez took part in 7 on 7 drills at Thursday’s OTA workout, and he’s shown a good understanding of the offense. “He really knows this offense well,” coach Rex Ryan said. “All that time rehabbing the injury has been a blessing. Because he’s been here with the coaches all the time. He looks fantastic. Last year, you saw a lot of positive things, but you also saw a lot of negatives. Right now, he’s throwing the ball great. He’s got such a great grasp of the system and that’s so encouraging […]

Jets CB Darrelle Revis was not in attendance for the start of the Jets’ voluntary OTAs on Thursday. Sources claim that Revis is unhappy and “furious” by the contract extension made by the Jets to his representatives, according to the New York Post. Revis is also reportedly suggesting that the Jets are taking the same approach with his contract that they did with previous players who ultimately left the team. The Post doubts that Revis will attend training camp. “This is voluntary camp,” head coach Rex Ryan said when asked about Revis’ absence. “You’d have to ask him the reason why he wasn’t here.” Ryan added that he hasn’t talked to Revis.

The New York Daily News reports that Jets WR Braylon Edwards is enjoying himself this offseason despite not getting a long-term contract extension. “I’m having fun and I’m learning,” Edwards said. Edwards, who signed a one-year, $6.1 million contract as a restricted free agent in March, has been a standout during the team’s offseason workouts. Coach Rex Ryan went so far as to call Edwards one of the two most impressive players during OTA workouts. The Jets are experimenting with Edwards in the slot this year, which is an effort to keep him on the field with Santonio Holmes and Jerricho Cotchery. “Whatever is needed, I can do,” he added. “I have versatility. So playing in the slot is not a problem for me. If playing in the slot was a problem, they wouldn’t put me in the slot. When you put me in the slot, you create a mismatch.” […]

A half-dozen practices into his tenure with the Jets and RB LaDainian Tomlinson believes he can still be a major contributor. While second-year RB Shonn Greene is expected to handle the bulk of the carries as the starter, Tomlinson should see lots of playing time. And he’s earning it by looking good in offseason minicamps and OTAs, according to head coach Rex Ryan, who says L.T. has that “wiggle” back. Tomlinson admitted that learning the Jets’ terminology has been a challenge, but the offense itself is familiar to him, and he even spoke out on how his role will change a little bit from years past. “A little difference is I’m moving around, especially in passing situations, and moving all over the place - motioning, shifts - so those are the kinds of things I’ve got to get used to,” he said.

The New York Daily News reports that Jets QB Mark Sanchez is taking advantage of his time during his comeback from offseason arthroscopic left knee surgery to learn about his protection schemes. “Mark knew the protections last year, but he didn’t really know the protections,” offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said. “He didn’t really know all the issues that came with the protections. That’s not unlike most young quarterbacks. So we’re trying to make him get caught up with that.” The paper reports Sanchez’s strength during his rookie year was pass route understanding. So, Schottenheimer has spent the bulk of this offseason helping his quarterback grasp the multi-layered protection concepts. “We challenged Mark more with things than probably a lot of young quarterbacks,” Schottenheimer said. “It’s not that he can’t handle it in any way, shape or form. He had a really good feel for routes more so than protections last […]

Jets coach Rex Ryan said Thursday that he wants to remain patient with QB Mark Sanchez, who is still recovering from offseason knee surgery. Ryan doesn’t “feel that comfortable right now” with Sanchez working in drills. “I don’t want to risk that right now because you’ve got bodies flying around,” Ryan said. “I think we just need to stay the course and, in due time, he’ll be out there. We all know he’s going to be ready to roll. It’s just (that) we don’t need to have any setbacks with him for sure.” But Ryan said he expects Sanchez to participate during the next minicamp. “I would think we can put him out there then, but these next OTAs I just assume we’ll ride it out like we’ve been doing,” Ryan said. “If we get him out there, expect run, just hand the ball off kid. You guys see him […]
